In a little over a week the Scottish Cross Country (SXC) Series will be arriving in Forfar ready to kick off the 2013 season with an exciting venue just outside of the town of Forfar. On Sunday the 17th of March the first of five series races incorporating the Scottish Championships will take place. Over the season the SXC will visit courses from Inverness to Dumfries and including the Commonwealth Games course at Cathkin Braes.
Following a successful and well-received course last year, the local club at Angus Bike Chain have made a few minor tweaks to the course, while staying true to the tough but rewarding nature of the terrain. Expect tough, but short, climbs, and fast, flowing, technical descents on a course that will suit those who enjoy more natural cycling. Anyone who raced here in 2012 will remember the delights of the bombhole section which remains for 2013 and the loose, wobbly wall ride. The infamous ‘chocolate chute’ section which was taken out for race day last year has been sorted out with a flowing section down the far end of the course. The course is shaping up to become somewhat of a SXC classic, staying true to what we all love about Mountain Biking in Scotland, while providing a course that will please Elites and Beginners alike.
Catering, again, will be on hand from the fabulous Grange Hotel Kitchen, keeping racers and spectators fuelled with sweet and savoury treats. If you’ve not tried their burgers yet, make sure you get along for one on race day!
The Start/Finish area and Parking have moved around to the back area of the course, full details and postcode to follow on the website.
And, don’t forget about Rippers Racing (Under 12’s) series where the young riders will be able to take on a fantastic track which echoes the delights of the full course.
Pre-entry is still open on the British Cycling website where you can take advantage of reduced online prices, and if you enter the pre-enter whole series online, you’ll get one race totally free.
